A native of Montreal, I have lived in Toronto, Cambridge (UK) and Penang, Malaysia. After graduating from the University of Toronto with a PhD (“Satire in the Novels of Aldous Huxley”) I lived in Malaysia for three years and then taught at the Toronto French School (English Lit and Creative Writing), followed by a stint teaching Literary Travel at UofT’s School of Continuing Education.

My writing career began almost simultaneously with my teaching, my first book review in The Globe and Mail appeared in 1980 followed shortly by my first travel piece in the same newspaper. In 2006, I read the works of nearly 50 first time writers and selected both the long and short list for the Books in Canada/Amazon.ca First Novel Award.
